Fa-la-la-la...

This past weekend was a blur, but understandable since Christmas is coming near. After leaving the office for the last time on Friday, my boss took me out to a nice lunch followed by a fun happy hour with my co-workers. They are SO sweet, gave me a card signed by all of them along with a spa giftcard. They will surely be missed! I then rushed home to get ready for Matt's company holiday party. It was at the California Club in LA and was a blast! Hello!!..open bar, of course it's gonna be a blast, right! ;) Then we headed to the Standard. Soo tired at the end of the night. The next day was a gloomy and lazy day, but headed out to Northridge later that afternoon for Chino and Marilyn's engagement party. We are extremely happy for them, it was nice to see and feel their excitement. Even more so for Matt, as two of his close friends are getting married! After we headed back to drive through Candy Cane Lane and enjoyed pretty sights, cookies, and hot cocoa. Mmmm! I looove Christmas lights! Weee!!

The next day was again a lazy day but Matt and I went to the Block and hung out with my sister. We had lunch/dinner, did more Christmas shopping, and walked around in the cold with boba. That night I started wrapping Christmas gifts. Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!! It's has been uber cold, so all I've been wanting to do is stay in, pop in a movie or watch some tv in my pjs, with my blanket, and hot cocoa, and maybe even some cookies. Yesterday was my god-daughter's school Christmas program. I must say, she's so cute and talented! You know, just like her Ninang! Haha But she sang and danced and made us smile. Then Matt and I took our yearly holiday pics. What did we do this year? You'll just have to wait and see! Til next time!

Chapter closes

A chapter of my life is coming to an end today. I sit here at my almost cleaned out desk watching my boss do the same. Today is our last day in the office. I woke up today with a bittersweet feeling. I felt relieved but somewhat sad but at the same time happy, and honestly a little scared. But I know things happen for a reason, and there IS a better and brighter tomorrow. I will defintely cherish the friendships I have made here and take them with me, along with everything both personally and professionally I have learned from them. And this being my last blog from my desk and as a "Wamulian", I raise my glass to the future that will make me look back and say to myself, "It all happened for a reason, thank you God"..Cheers!

The Ring Tizzy

Here's an article I stumbled upon during my daily morning reads on CNN.com. Haha! Enjoy!

Maybe it's because we're forced to deal with our families more than usual during the holidays, but these can be trying times for women without rings on their wedding fingers.

Aunt Esther's annual grab at your left hand and subsequent clucking over your naked ring finger is annoying, but you write it off because she's senile and will die soon. When your cousin Myrna gasses on about her impending nuptials over eggnog, you actually feel a little sorry for her because you see the way her betrothed keeps eyeing her sister.

But when your baby sister flashes the rock that her professor-turned-paramour put under the tree, you succumb to a little condition called "The Ring Tizzy."

"The Ring Tizzy" is what happens when you just can't take another snide comment, pitying look, or "helpful" suggestion. You're single, after all -- not recently diagnosed with some fatal, flesh-eating disease.

But that's how it can feel sometimes, and instead of cracking-wise in reply, you give in and decide that you are going to shut all of them up once and for all because you, too, are getting married. Whether he likes it or not. After all, you guys have been dating for a couple years, months, weeks, or days -- how long does he think he's going to keep milking that cow for free?

Here's exactly the wrong way to go about extracting a proposal from your man.

1. The cutesy ooopsy method: You leave magazines scattered around. Oddly enough, each one open to giant, full-page ads for diamond rings. You hum "Every kiss belongs to Kay" and every other jewelry store jingle you can think of.

While out walking with your guy, you always seem to need to stop and tie your shoes or adjust your scarf just as you pass a jewelry store. You work jewel-related metaphors into every possible conversation: "She's as dull as a half-price CZ," or "I wish my hair were PLATINUM." You aren't convincing him to marry you --you're showing him that you think he's a moron.

2. The business agreement: "Look, neither of us are getting any younger, let's just get married," you briskly inform him while whipping out a sensible spreadsheet that proves exactly how marriage will be beneficial to both parties. This approach is about as romantic as a hairball, and if he thought he was worried about being celibate once he walked down the aisle, this is just the tool to convince him of that.

3. The angry passive-aggressive "hint": "What do you want for Hanukkah," he asks sweetly. "I want to die alone, in my parents' basement, covered in cat hair," you hiss in reply, as your head spins like a top and pea soup spews from your mouth. You charmer -- who wouldn't wanna marry you?

4. The angry aggressive-aggressive approach: When most guys consider marriage, they aren't envisioning a romantic ceremony and a reception filled with their nearest and dearest. They're thinking that you're the last person they're ever going to hook up with, and if their friends' marriages are any indicator, he's not even going to be getting much of that.

If you need to shriek and demand a proposal from a guy, he's probably going to walk quickly in the opposite direction. Even if he gives in, you might have a fun wedding, but you're not going to have much of a marriage. Sure, he might have sprung for the ring, but he's never going to forget that he was hectored into doing something he wasn't ready to do.

Much better to show Aunt Sophie your other finger, congratulate Cousin Myrna on landing such a stylish groom, give your sister a congratulatory hug, and count yourself lucky that you're not going to see your family for another year.

Ooopen the lights!

Friday night, Matthew and I watched Jo Koy at the Brea Improv with Kat, JB, Steph, Aron, Jerry, and Drea. The show was hilarious and it was good to laugh after the work week. He performed some new material, but put a twist to his old stuff so it was still cool to hear. But nonetheless, FUNNY!!! And as an added bonus, he was on for about 3 hours! Here's a pic of us with the funny man himself!

The next day was a complete blur! Well, I know I woke up early. Like SUPER early, but I can't remember why. Haha! I finally did SOME laundry though and ran some errands. Then Matthew and I went to his cousin's baby shower and there saw some of his cousins we haven't seen in a while (including the celebrants!) and some from out of town, so it was nice seeing them and catching up. Aaand I won a baby shower game, you know the one where you have to sculpt a baby out of bubble gum. I'm a winner! We later drove back to my house because my car was to be the lucky one that gets to transport a Christmas tree. But I must say, my tree is puuurty :) And I love going to bed and waking up to the smell..of pine! Haha ..but Christmas! And don't know if you can see it well here, but my balls are pretty. Lol.

We then headed back to his cousin's house to watch the Pac-Man "mexicute" De La Hoya. Manny! Manny! Manny!... but I kinda felt bad for his opponent. Someone who was so great one day and now..well, so sad! I think I'm too emotional and sensitive, it's a fight! Haha Later that night, we went out for some food and drinks with them.
We got up early again the next morning because I'm a Confirmation sponsor for one of Matt's cousins and we had mass. The priest included Bono and Britney Spears in his homily. Random. Haha Then drove to Matt's house to meet up and have breakfast with his cousins who were flying out at noon. Then baaack to Cerritos (phew! I'm just tired thinking about it again) to do some more Christmas shopping. We later saw Q because what weekend would be complete without seeing the little man? We ended up completely knocking out on my couch by 9pm. Sleepy!
But today I went home around 11am. Felt a little under the weather. But went to my Ninang's house and did some work. I shoulda slept. Yawn!

BLESSED

I am so completely BLESSED. Like, unbelievably blessed. I can't even begin to explain...

OMG Britney! (Just for Kat)

I wake up to my phone notifying me that Michelle had left a message on my Facebook Wall. Dun dun dun.. Britney concert tickets on sale this morning! Whoa. Followed by an email from her with the presale information and password. Whoa, whoa. My head was spinning, I just woke up, yet I wanted to bounce off the walls. I rushed to my laptop, went onto Ticketmaster, and of course my internet connection gives me problems..the day I need to get Britney tixs! I call Kat and Layla came out! Go-go-go-get the tickets!!! (I didn't mean to scare you Biffy, but just like Black Friday, Britney is no joke! Haha ) And becuase of my wonderful bestest, I am watching Britney with my Throw girls with bomb ass seats! I get ready for work while I wait for Britney's performance on GMA. And..ladies and gents, SHE'S BACK and there's no denying it! I know I kept saying that the past few years but I swear this time I mean it! After taking my god-daughter to school I stopped by Target to grab her CD and OMG Britney! It is GRRRRREAT! I can't stop listening to it and can't wait to get home so I can dance to it. In my kitchen. Haha! Yes, I was late to work and felt all light headed this morning but it was well worth it...I'm watching Britney in concert!! Yaaaayayayayyeeeeeee!!!!

Deja Vu

Here it is, all over again. Last year around this time was my first time getting laid off from work. A year later, here's my 3rd time. A bit bummed but can't say I was surprised. I'm optimistic and know that there is something better our there for me, a place where I won't get laid off every 6 months or so. Haha My last day is not until the end of January, but the negativity here blows! But am very thankful for all the calls, notes, emails, and hugs. Every time this happens (that sounds horrible) I feel so loved with all the encouragement I get from people and I swear it's what gives me luck that I always come out of it OK! I am all smiles and am very much ready for my better and brighter tomorrow..and I KNOW that, like Alicia Keys says.. "everything's gonna be alright!" :)

Where's the....TURKEY?!! Out shopping.

Thanksgiving morning started off with my usual watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade pre-show with the broadway acts as I snuggled in my blanket. Then the rest of the day was BOOM BOOM BOOM! Thanksgiving was at my house this year so helped the parentals cook and get ready. It was a nice gathering, except we were missing the main "guest". The turkey! We had ordered from Honey Baked and when we opened the bag, it was ham! Super bummed! But oh well, the rest of the food was DELISH! Matt even made corn bread muffins, gravy, and Tita Date's yummy mashed potatoes. And I made..the vegetables and salad. Hey..I made somethin! Here's just SOME of the food and some other pics. My parents and sis left that afternoon for Vegas but Matthew and I stayed behind. We went to relative's house for another Thanksgiving gathering, this time a BBQ. Soon after we went home to get ready for some Black Friday midnight shopping. For all of you who don't know me well, THIS is my HOLIDAY! Matthew, Kat, Steph and I headed for Cabazon, got there at midnight but because of all the people we were stuck at the freeway exit for a good hour. He dropped us off to start shopping and didn't find parking until another hour later! We found good deals and great buys. I'm on a high just thinking about it! But my narcoleptic boyfriend was a TROOPER! He even got the car for us, I heart him so! We got home around 6am, took a short nap thenheaded off to the mall with my Ninang. Again, great buys! Love it! Got home a little after noon, packed, and headed to see cousin Q for his birthday. Then off to the airport to meet my parents in Vegas.
Matt and I were SO done by the time we got there. But that didn't stop us from waking up early on Saturday to, what else..SHOP! It was a looong shop day. But we're almost done Christmas shopping! First time ever! Woohoo! My Dad didn't even want to try. He stayed behind as the rest of us went. Vegas wasn't as crowded as usual, but the shops were. I thought we were in recession?? We got back to LA on Sunday just in time for Mike's surprise birthday lunch and saw my Throw girls! Then off to a "Thanksgiving dinner" at Joe's Sushi with Matt's cousins..super yum! But at the end of the night I felt like I was going to explode!! But good times, good people, good food, good buys, and finally that night..good SLEEP!
Pictures as usual can be found in my links.

New Kids on MY Block!

The concert was so much fun with Biffy, Marilyn, and Michelle.. and Jordan was hotter than ever! The show was the last show of the tour, SADNESS!! Since this was our 2nd time watching (hehe!) we skipped the opening acts and had dinner instead with Matthew and chino. We arrived just in time to get a drink and take one last pee break before they came on stage. Then it was screaming, laughing, dancing, singing, reminiscing, and yes..some tears throughout the night. (And lots of crotch shots!)After the concert we met up with the boys and had late night breakfast, the best kind of breakfast! It was a good night! Especially because Biffy and I kept the tradition going with spending Thanksgiving Eve together, since THE incident. Hehehe!!

Uh-oh-oooh..the right stuff! Until next time NKOTB! ..when they're old and gray. Let's hope not!
